Early Childhood Laboratory
Since 1938 the UL Lafayette Early Childhood Lab has served students majoring in Human Development & Family Science and related disciplines as a human development/relationships laboratory.
The Lab has three major functions:
- Observation and participation opportunities for students studying early human development, guidance, and programming for young children.
- Research environment for students and faculty
- Model program observation facility for regional early childhood professionals.
In coordination with these academic functions, the laboratory provides a nurturing learning environment for 18 children between the ages of 3 and 5 years. The philosophy of the program is the "traditional nursery school." Emphasis is on providing developmentally appropriate experiences for the development of the whole child and on learning through play. Parents from Lafayette and the surrounding community are encouraged to visit the program and place their children's names on the waiting list. Enrollment is based on the date of application.
